The Hoverthorn (Monopter astrapakantha, "single-winged lightning-spine") is a passive fish found in the Observatory biome at 100–500m depth. It propels itself using a living magnetohydrodynamic thruster — a biological analogue to the MHD drives used in sci-fi submarines — rather than conventional fins. Passive and non-threatening, but critical: bioscanning the Hoverthorn (with Bioscanner) unlocks the Threat Sense passive biomod, which provides a 50m radius hostile detection ping.
