Co-op Hub

The Subnautica 2 Co-op hub no other wiki has.

Subnautica 2 supports up to 4 players in online co-op with full crossplay between PC (Steam, Epic, Xbox app) and Xbox Series X|S. PS5 is not yet supported. No split-screen, no dedicated servers — host-and-play only. Below: the seven topics that cover every recurring question.

Topics

Co-op Server Setup

Subnautica 2 co-op is host-and-play, up to 4 players. The host starts (or loads) a save, generates a Friend Code from the main menu, and shares it with friends — they paste the code under Join Friends. There is no dedicated server option in Early Access; the world only runs while the host is online.

Sync & Desync Issues

Most Subnautica 2 co-op desync, lag, and 'session falls apart after 1–2 hours' reports come from one of five causes: host upload bandwidth, antivirus blocking the netcode, an overlay (Discord/MSI/RTSS), a VPN on one side, or Wi-Fi packet loss. Fix them in that order.

Shared Progression Rules

In Subnautica 2 co-op, blueprints, scan progress, and world state (built bases, deployed beacons, opened doors) are shared. Inventory, equipped biomods, fabricator-station unlocks for crafting, hunger/thirst, oxygen, and achievement triggers are per-player.

Voice Communication Tips

Subnautica 2 has no built-in voice chat in Early Access. Use Discord (best for crossplay parties), Steam Voice (Steam-to-Steam only), or Xbox Party (Xbox + Xbox-app-on-PC). Disable your push-to-talk hotkey from conflicting with the game's flashlight (F) and ping (Middle Mouse) defaults.

Base Sharing Patterns

Anything anyone builds is editable by anyone. Coordinate with three rules: assign locker zones (resources / personal / overflow), agree one player owns the power grid, and color-code beacons by purpose. Without these, a 4-person base becomes unusable inside one play session.

Crossplay PC + Xbox

Subnautica 2 has full crossplay between Steam, Epic Games Store, the Xbox app on PC, and Xbox Series X|S consoles. PlayStation 5 is not supported in Early Access. All invites use a per-session Friend Code — there is no Steam-friends-list dependency.

Co-op Roles

A balanced 4-player Subnautica 2 party assigns one each: Builder (habitat + fabricators), Gatherer (resource runs + cooking), Scout (Tadpole + mapping), Defender (combat + escort). Each role pairs with a small set of biomods and tools. You can drift between roles freely — this is structure for the first 5–10 hours, not a class system.

Why this hub exists

Subnautica 2 co-op questions are scattered across Steam threads, host-vendor blogs, and one or two thin wiki pages. This hub consolidates the five things that recur in every thread: how the Friend Code works, what crossplay actually covers, what's shared between players, how to keep a session stable past the 1–2 hour mark, and how four people should actually divide the work. Direct, current, and updated as patches land.
