How does this compare to Subnautica 1 and Below Zero?
- Subnautica 1 (2018, 1.0): $24.99 launch price.
- Subnautica: Below Zero (2021, 1.0): $29.99 launch price.
- Subnautica 2 (2026, EA): $29.99 — same as Below Zero's 1.0 price, despite SN2 being in EA.
Subnautica 1's EA price was significantly lower than its 1.0 price. Subnautica 2 is launching EA at the same price as Below Zero's 1.0 — partly inflation, partly reflecting the day-one feature set (4-player co-op, full crossplay).
Will the price go up at 1.0?
Likely yes — Subnautica 1's EA-to-1.0 price increase is the precedent. Unknown Worlds has not officially committed to a 1.0 price for Subnautica 2, but the pattern across the franchise has been: lower EA price, higher 1.0 price. Buying in Early Access locks the current price and grants all updates through 1.0 at no extra cost.
Deluxe / Collector's edition?
No higher-tier edition has been announced at EA launch. Standard Edition only. Unknown Worlds did not ship a deluxe SKU for SN1 or Below Zero. If Krafton pushes one for 1.0, expect cosmetics, soundtrack, and possibly a season pass. [unconfirmed]
Is it worth $29.99 in Early Access?
Honest read on launch state:
- If you want co-op: Yes. Subnautica 2 is the only Subnautica with native multiplayer, and 4-player crossplay is stable enough at launch.
- If you want a complete story: Wait. The EA arc concludes around the Observatory biome and the full 1.0 ending is not in. Story explained.
- If you have Game Pass: Just play it. Zero marginal cost.
- If you only own a PS5: You're not buying it — it's not on PS5. PS5 status.
Discounts and sales
Early Access titles from Unknown Worlds historically discount lightly during their EA window — 10–20% during major Steam sales, not deeper. Don't expect a 50%-off sale until 1.0 anniversary windows. Game Pass remains the cheapest entry if you can use it.
