Is Subnautica 2 on Mac?

No native Mac build at Early Access launch (May 14, 2026). Unknown Worlds has made no official Mac statement. Mac players have a few workaround paths but no first-class option.

Native Mac status

Subnautica 1 historically had a Mac version that was discontinued long before the current Apple Silicon era. Below Zero never shipped on Mac. There's no franchise precedent for a sustained native Mac release.

Workarounds for Mac players

1. Apple Game Porting Toolkit (GPTK) on Apple Silicon

Apple's Game Porting Toolkit lets developers and end users run Windows games on Apple Silicon Macs via translation. Subnautica 2 has been reported to launch under GPTK, but performance varies by Mac model. [community-reported, uncertain] Expect lower frame rates than native Windows on similar hardware. No anti-cheat blockers (Subnautica 2 has no kernel-level AC), so GPTK is technically a valid path.

2. CrossOver (commercial)

CrossOver from CodeWeavers is the same Wine-based stack behind GPTK with a friendlier installer. CrossOver supports Apple Silicon. Expect similar performance characteristics to GPTK.

3. Boot Camp (Intel Macs only)

If you still have an Intel Mac, Boot Camp can run Windows 10/11 natively. This is the most performant Windows-on-Mac path for Intel hardware, but it's not relevant for the majority of current Macs (M1+).

4. Cloud / streaming

Xbox Cloud Gaming can stream Subnautica 2 (via Game Pass Ultimate) to any Mac in a supported region — Safari or Chrome, controller, no install. This is the most reliable Mac path for casual play. GeForce Now support is unconfirmed at launch. Steam Link works if you have a Windows PC at home to stream from.

Will a native Mac build ever come?

No public commitment from Unknown Worlds. Given the franchise's history (Subnautica 1's Mac version was dropped, Below Zero never had one), a native Subnautica 2 Mac build is not the bet to make. If Apple Silicon's gaming push continues and Krafton sees demand, it's not impossible at or after 1.0 — but no signal exists.
