Is Subnautica 2 on PS5?
Short answer: no. Subnautica 2 is not available on PS5 as of May 2026, and Unknown Worlds has not confirmed a PS5 build is in development. A post-1.0 PS5 port is the most likely outcome based on the studio's history, but no date exists.
Why no PS5 at launch?
Subnautica 2 launched on May 14, 2026 in Early Access. PlayStation does not offer a structural equivalent to Steam Early Access or Xbox Game Preview — Sony requires games on the PS5 store to be 1.0-ready, complete, and rated as finished products. That alone makes a day-one PS5 launch impossible for a game shipping in EA.
Subnautica 1 followed the same pattern: Early Access on PC in 2014, 1.0 in 2018, then a PS4 port months later. Below Zero did roughly the same — PC EA first, PS4/PS5 ports after 1.0. Expect the same arc for Subnautica 2.
When will Subnautica 2 come to PS5?
No official date. The earliest plausible window is after the 1.0 release, which itself is not yet announced — but expected ~12 months minimum after EA launch based on SN1 precedent. A 2027 PS5 release is the most realistic optimistic estimate; slippage to 2028 is plausible.
Status as of May 25, 2026: No PS5 build announced. No development confirmation. No store listing. Treat any "PS5 release date" claim outside of an official Unknown Worlds or Krafton announcement as speculation.
What about PS4?
Not supported. Subnautica 2 launched on Xbox Series X|S only — the previous-gen Xbox One is not supported either. A PS4 port is highly unlikely given the depth, biome density, and base-building load of the EA build.
Will Subnautica 2 ever cross-play with PS5?
Crossplay at EA launch covers Steam, Epic, Xbox Series, Xbox PC, ROG Xbox Ally, and Game Pass. Sony has historically allowed crossplay for first-party-approved titles, so if a PS5 build ships and Unknown Worlds enables crossplay, PS5 players would likely join the existing pool. None of this is committed.
If you only own a PS5, what are your options?
- Wait. The most accurate answer. There is no current way to play Subnautica 2 on PS5.
- Play Subnautica 1 or Below Zero in the meantime. Both are available on PS5 (Subnautica 1 PS5 native, Below Zero PS5 native).
- Play it on PC or Xbox if you have access. Game Pass Ultimate covers Xbox + PC Game Pass, including Subnautica 2 day-one — that's the cheapest entry point if you have an Xbox or a Windows PC.
- Cloud streaming? GeForce Now is unconfirmed at launch. Xbox Cloud Gaming streams Game Pass titles — that's a possibility if Subnautica 2 lands on the streaming roster.
Background: why the long wait?
Subnautica 2's PC + Xbox-only launch is partly a function of Microsoft's Game Preview program (which Sony does not have an equivalent for) and partly a result of the Krafton vs Unknown Worlds lawsuit, which delayed and disrupted Unknown Worlds' development cadence through 2025.
