Game Pass — does it cover Subnautica 2?

Yes. Subnautica 2 was added to Xbox Game Pass on its launch day, May 14, 2026, on both the Console and PC tiers. Game Pass Ultimate covers both plus Cloud Gaming. If you already pay for Game Pass, you do not need to buy the game — it's in the catalog.

If Game Pass later drops Subnautica 2 from the catalog, players who installed via Game Pass would lose access until they purchase. That's standard subscription behavior. As of launch month, there's no signal of a near-term removal.

Crossplay

Xbox Series, Xbox PC, Game Pass, ROG Xbox Ally, Steam, and Epic all cross-play together. You connect via Friend Code — no platform-friend prerequisite. You can host on Xbox and have your friends join from Steam, and vice versa.

Performance on Series S vs Series X

Both consoles run the EA build. Series X targets higher resolution / frame stability; Series S runs at a lower resolution with similar gameplay parity. Specific resolution and frame-rate modes have not been published by Unknown Worlds at launch. [uncertain — verify with in-game settings]

Xbox One — any chance?

No. Subnautica 2 is Series X|S only. The EA build's biome density, base-building system, and procedural content do not target Xbox One hardware. A backwards-compatible release is not on the roadmap.
