Is Subnautica 2 on Nintendo Switch?

Current status

• Official stance: Unknown Worlds has stated they are not pursuing a Nintendo release at this time.

Why no Switch?

Subnautica 1 received a Switch port in 2021, but it was widely regarded as a hard technical compromise — reduced view distance, low-resolution rendering, and visible streaming pop-in even on the original Switch. Subnautica 2's EA build is more graphically demanding and uses a procedural base-building system that doesn't shrink down as cleanly. A Switch (original hardware) port is structurally unlikely.

Switch 2 is more capable and a port becomes technically plausible, but neither Krafton nor Unknown Worlds has announced one. Given the Krafton vs Unknown Worlds lawsuit context and the studio's stated Nintendo posture, treat Switch 2 as "maybe post-1.0, but no signal."

What about cloud streaming?

Subnautica 2 is on Xbox Game Pass. Xbox Cloud Gaming can stream Game Pass titles to many devices — though Nintendo restricts cloud-streamed games on Switch to dedicated cloud-version SKUs (e.g., Hitman 3 Cloud Version) and Unknown Worlds / Microsoft would need to opt in. No such SKU exists for Subnautica 2 today.

If you only play on Switch, your options

• Play Subnautica 1 on Switch. Available since 2021. Below Zero also has a Switch release.
• Wait. A Switch 2 port is the only realistic Nintendo path. Don't expect news in 2026.
• Borrow a PC or Xbox. Game Pass on PC is the cheapest way in if you have any Windows PC.
• Cloud-stream from a friend's setup. Possible via Steam Link, GeForce Now (if eventually supported), or Xbox Cloud Gaming on phone/browser.
