The Houndgar (Teuthis courser, "running squid") is a cephalopod from the Graveyard biome that uses a disorienting dazzle attack to blind prey before a Marrowbreach moves in for the kill. The Houndgar and Marrowbreach are a co-evolutionary predator pair — treat any Houndgar sighting as an advance warning that a Marrowbreach is operating nearby. Bioscanning both creatures eventually unlocks the Chum Cloud active biomod (requires Toxic Sponge scan too).

Behavior: Dazzles prey (brief disorientation), then [marrowbreach] finishes the kill. Treat as a pair — fight or flee both. Biomod: Bioscan Houndgar + Toxic Sponge → Chum Cloud active (throws bait orb 10m, distracts predators 5–10s, 20s cooldown).
Strategy:
- On Graveyard runs (Gold/Sulfur farming), bring Chum Cloud or the Dash biomod — Houndgar+Marrowbreach pairs are common.
- Houndgars have lower HP than Marrowbreaches — disable the blinder first if forced to engage.
